Lykes Lines is one of the U.S. liner industry's longest enduring brands. It began as Lykes Bros. Steamship Company in 1899, with a wooden schooner transporting cattle from the U.S. Gulf to Cuba. Over the last few years, since it became part of CP Ships, Lykes Lines has expanded over much of the globe. Today it operates services between the U.S., Asia, India, Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
Lykes Lines operates five ships under the US flag (on the Gulf Atlantic Sprint, Loop 1). This enables it to bid for U.S. government and military cargo a significant business on the transatlantic.
Lykes Lines is the largest member of the CP Ships group, offering 23 services (Oct 2002).
